Ontario Youth: Let politicians know you expect better
Youth of Ontario, you’re inheriting a society where the cost of housing is out of reach, but we’re building new homes slower than other provinces. You're hit hard by inflation, but will pay more into the Canada Pension Plan than you’ll ever get out—because we contributed too little in the past. There are fewer of you to support more retirees, so your government must help you become more productive to make up the difference.
You're entering a job market where too many positions are low-paying, unstable, and without benefits. The cost of living has jumped, and you're more likely than your parents to struggle financially—even if you do everything right. And if you’re starting a family, you face high childcare costs and too little support to balance work and home.
Your education was disrupted by the pandemic. There’s a shortage of child care workers and educational assistants. Colleges and universities are underfunded, and so is mental health care—just when your generation needs it most.
You’re coming of age in a fractured society, where anger is replacing cooperation. Leaders have normalized incivility. And to top it off, you've been handed a degraded environment and a climate crisis—rising costs, instability, and long-term risks that threaten your future.
It’s not fair. But you’re not powerless. Let politicians know you expect better—and support those who offer thoughtful, practical solutions grounded in real experience. Don’t settle for slogans. Back the people you believe will do the hard work to actually fix things—not just for the next election, but for the next generation.
